Generally speaking, the real-time display of animal B-ultrasound machines using linear rectal probes is suitable for detecting the reproduction of cows. Most veterinary ultrasound machines consist of a control panel unit, which includes electronic devices, control devices, and a screen. The operator can see ultrasound images on the screen, as well as a transducer that emits and receives high-frequency ultrasound waves. A linear sensor is composed of a series of piezoelectric crystals arranged in a row. These crystals emit high-frequency sound waves when powered on. The configuration of the linear array transducer results in a rectangular image on the scanning field (opposite to the pie shaped image generated by the sector transducer). At present, the price of a veterinary ultrasound machine equipped with a rectal probe ranges from 9800 to 43000. The image quality of animal B-ultrasound machines varies greatly depending on the price, and usually increases with the increase of equipment cost. For more expensive machines, but routine early pregnancy testing for cows is not necessary.

Cattle breeding and testing often use linear array transducers specially designed for transrectal use to scan each rectum. However, specialized applications including egg retrieval and follicle ablation involve transvaginal methods using sector transducers. Linear array transducers with frequency ranges of 5.0 and 7.5 MHz are commonly used for reproductive ultrasound examinations in cattle, and most veterinary ultrasound scanners are compatible with probes of different frequencies. The tissue penetration depth and image resolution of sound waves depend on the frequency of the transducer and are inversely proportional to it. Therefore, 5.0-MHz transducers result in greater tissue penetration depth and fewer image details, while 7.5-MHz transducers result in smaller tissue penetration depth and richer image details. An ultrasound scanner equipped with a 5.0-MHz transducer is useful for cattle practitioners conducting routine reproductive examinations. However, small ovarian structures, such as developing follicles, are best imaged using a 7.5-MHz probe.
