Cows are usually bred in spring and calve in winter or early spring of the following year. Therefore, bovine reproductive tract infections often occur during the winter or early spring season. Cow pelvic inflammatory disease, including vulvitis, vestibular inflammation, and vaginitis, is a common postpartum disease in cows. So postpartum cows need to frequently use imported cows for B-ultrasound examination of their reproductive system.

Cows with this disease often exhibit symptoms such as restlessness in arching their backs, raised tails, increased frequency of urination, decreased appetite, and depressed spirits. Some sick cows have swollen external genitalia and exudate from the vulva, forming dry scabs on both sides or around the vulva. If this phenomenon is observed, imported cows should be diagnosed with B-ultrasound and treated early.

Prevention and treatment methods for vaginitis in cows in early spring:

1. Strengthen postpartum management of cows, especially when the placenta does not come down after delivery, special attention should be paid to using imported cows for B-ultrasound examination of the uterus.

2. For cows that have already fallen ill, 0.1% potassium permanganate solution or 2% soda water can be used to rinse the genital area. If the vaginal mucosa of imported cattle shows edema on ultrasound, it should be rinsed with 5% warm saline instead; If there is a large amount of vaginal discharge, it can be washed with 3% tannic acid or 3% alum water. After rinsing, sulfonamide or boric acid ointment can be applied to the mucosa. Iodine glycerin solution can be applied to the wound and ulcer surfaces.

For chronic and stubborn vaginitis, 50 grams of peeled garlic can be crushed, rolled into strips with gauze, and placed in the vagina for 2 hours each time, once a day, for 8 consecutive days. The effect is particularly significant.

Improper feeding and management of pregnant cows in winter can easily lead to miscarriage, with the symptom of vaginal discharge of mucus in the early stages of pregnancy. Sheep should be used for B-ultrasound to identify whether there is vaginitis. Constantly looking back at the abdominal cavity, restless from getting up and lying down; In the later stages of pregnancy, there may be breast enlargement, arching of the waist, frequent urination posture, obvious abdominal pain, and cessation of fetal movement. During treatment, 0.5-1 grams of progesterone can be injected into the muscle once a day for 4-6 consecutive days, which can achieve good results.
